14thFoot raised in 1685 as Hales Regiment, became the West
Yorkshire Regiment in 1881.
The 1st Battalion was in India for 23 years continuous service
and for this service the regiment was awarded the Royal Tiger
in 1831. In 1873 it was awarded another royal badge, the white
horse of Hanover. It was in 1876 new Colours were presented
to the 1st Battalion in India, it received the title Prince
of Wales Own and his plume as a Colour badge.
The Colours and Memorials are in York Minster and Bradford
Cathedral.
