59Foot raised in 1755 became the West Middlesex Regiment in 1782, the 77thFoot raised in 1787 became the East Middlesex in 1807, they were linked in 1881.

1881.07.01 The Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment)
organised as the county regiment of Middlesex, encompassing its Militia and Volunteer infantry [see below] and uniting two regular battalions:
1st Battalion, redesignation of 57th (West Middlesex) Regiment of Foot
2nd Battalion, redesignation of 77th (East Middlesex, Duke of Cambridge's Own) Regiment of Foot

1889 parts of Middlesex County absorbed into new County of London
1908.04.01 3rd Vol Bn transferred to The London Regiment upon creation of T.F.
1916.07.07 7th Bn, 13th Bn and 19th Bn of The London Regiment affiliated
1921.01.01 The Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own)
1965 remainder of Middlesex County absorbed into Greater London
1966.12.31 united with The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment, The Queen's Own Buffs, and The Royal Sussex Regiment, to form The Queens' Regiment

In the Korean war 1950, the 1st Battalion Middlesex along with the Argylls were the first British troops to see action and won no less than seven battle honours. It is interesting to note that the regiment at that period had a very high proportion of National Servicemen among the ranks.
