The 47th was raised in 1740 as Mordaunts Regiment, it became Lancashire Regiment in 1782. The 81st raised in 1793 were linked as 1st & 2nd Battalions in 1881.

The title "Loyal" originated from the 81st, the men of Lincoln volunteered to such a degree that they earned the title "Loyal".

In 1881 the title was The Loyal North Lancashire and in 1970 the Loyals were absorbed into The Queens Lancashire Regiment.

1881.07.01 The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment
organised as the county regiment of north central Lancashire, encompassing its Militia and Volunteer infantry [see below] and uniting two regular battalions:
1st Battalion, redesignation of 47th (Lancashire) Regiment of Foot
2nd Battalion, redesignation of 81st (Loyal Lincoln Volunteers) Regiment of Foot
