The Royal Hampshire Regiment

The 37th Foot was raised in 1702, the 67th Foot in 1756. They became the North & South Hampshire in 1782 and the 1st & 2nd Battalions in 1881.

1881.07.01 The Hampshire Regiment
organised as the county regiment of Hampshire, encompassing its Militia and Volunteer infantry [see below] and uniting two regular battalions:
1st Battalion, redesignation of 37th (North Hampshire) Regiment of Foot
2nd Battalion, redesignation of 67th (South Hampshire) Regiment of Foot

The Hampshires wore yellow facings. The new regiment is The Royal Regiment of Gloucestershire and Hampshire.

The Colours are in Portsmouth Cathedral and St Peters Church Bournemouth, memorial windows in Winchester Cathedral, All Saints Aldershot and Sandhurst Military Academy.
