My name is Michael Isaac, 23424004 L/Cpl 1 DCLI, October 10th 1957- October 9th 1959. I enlisted at Victoria barracks Bodmin 46th intake I think? After basic training (10 weeks I missed my passing out parade because I collapsed the day before with double pneumonia and pleurisy!!. After Christmas 1957 I was sent to Strensall in Yorkshire on NCOs cadre. On completion I returned to Bodmin and assisted in the training of new intakes. In June 1958 I was posted to Osnabruck with my brother Brian Isaac who had enlisted in the SLI and asked to be transferred to DCLI in order to be with me. We both served in Osnabruck with 1 DCLI. I returned to Bodmin about 2 weeks before the amalgamation on the 6th October 1959. I was very surprised to see a photo of myself being handed a new cap badge by the the CO on your website of SCLI, so technically I was in the SCLI for 3 days. (Michael Isaac is the man the CO is handing over the badge, he has his head bent over)

My brother Brian continued with SCLI for another year and eventually joined the navy for 12 years, sadly Brian died February 2005 at his home in Shrewsbury. See obituary notice.
