23786555 John Rea - died 1st July 1976 of leukaemia he was in the SCLI from 1960 - 70. He started as a boy soldier on 10.6.1960 and joined the regiment in Gibraltar on 8.12.1961. He served in Germany, Aden and Northern Ireland. He was awarded the GSM for South Arabia and NI. He left 1LI on 28.8.1970.

He was married to Hazel in 1968 and was posted to Ballykinler Camp, NI. He was the photographer for the battalion. He bought himself out in 1973 and got a job with the MOD as Information Officer. His first assignment was in Belfast! He transferred to MOD London in 1974. They had 2 sons.

2. Park Hall Barracks, Oswestry - Junior Leader Training Centre
It is now home to the Museum of the Welsh Guards, continuing the link with the military started so long ago in 1915.

Unimog U 4000 is a 4x4 all terrain multi-utility truck manufactured by Mercedes-Benz for military as well as industrial applications.
