1751.07.01 9th Regiment of Foot
1782.08.31 9th (the East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot
1881.07.01 The Norfolk Regiment

1935.06.03 The Royal Norfolk Regiment
1959.08.29 amalgamated with The Suffolk Regiment, to form 1st East Anglian Regiment (Royal Norfolk and Suffolk)

Five V.C.'s were won during the Second World War, this was more than any other regiment. One action was carried out by Captain John Neil Randle at Kohima 1944 where he attacked a Japanese machine gun bunker entirely on his own. The enemy machine gun had been pinning down his men for some time, he died in this action but saved many of his mens lives.

The Colours of this regiment are laid up in Norwich Cathedral.

1959.08.29 amalgamated with 1st Bn, The Suffolk Regiment, to form 1st Bn, 1st East Anglian Regiment (Royal Norfolk and Suffolk)
