The 4th raised in 1680 as the Tangier regiment and in 1881 it became Royal Lancaster Regiment.

This regiment was raised specifically to defend Tangier in the reign of Charles the second.

The Royal Lion badge was granted by King William the third and the title of The Kings Own in 1715. The regiment had royal blue facings and in 1959 it was almalgamated with the Kings Own Royal Border Regiment.

The retired Colours are in the Priory Church Lancaster but the 4th Kings Colours are in Edinburgh Castle.
